CHAPTER EIGHT

Sierra

"Oh my God," I groaned, closing my eyes. "This is the best thing I've ever tasted in my life."

"I'm glad you like it," he said, taking a bite of his pork chop. "It's one of my favorite things to make."

"I'd eat this every day if given the choice," I said, taking another bite. I had to admit that it was rather sexy seeing him move around his kitchen. He didn't do much cooking at the restaurant, mostly working the hot plate. But seeing him dicing veggies and spices, sauteing food, and the sexy thing he does with his eyebrows when he's in deep concentration was a complete turn on. I wouldn't mind having him cook for me everything.

I shook the thought from my head; I was getting way ahead of myself. I wracked my brain for something else to talk about when the silence between us became too uncomfortable.

"So it looks like my best friend is smitten with your brother," I said. He looked across the table at me in slight surprise.

"Really? I haven't heard from him. She must keep him pretty busy," he replied.

I giggled. From what she told me--including their little sexcapades--I was sure his brother had plenty to keep him busy when it came to her. "I'm sure she is," I simply said.

"Do you ever miss your old job?" he asked suddenly. I dropped my eyes to my plate, pushing vegetables around.

"Not really," I said. I didn't want to talk about my old job and the bullshit that happened there. When I looked up, his eyes were on me, searching my face to try to find whatever other answer he was looking. His handsome face held a little concern, his soft gray eyes focused on me. I sighed, the words just bubbling up my throat and out of my mouth.

"I don't want you to think that I prey on my bosses or anything, but..." I paused and took a deep breath. "My boss and I kind of had an affair and things just went to hell."

"Kind of?" he asked, leaning back in his chair.

I nodded, keeping my eyes on his plate. "I mean he was married, but I didn't know about it. But when I found out, I ended things and he made my life a living hell after that. On top of him harassing me, the other employees harassed me and said that I was trying to fuck my way to the top. But his wife made sure that didn't happen."

"I see," he said, his voice tight. I looked up at him.

"It was a major mistake. It's why I didn't want anything serious with you and told you that upfront. I don't want something similar to happen again," I said. And I didn't. I actually liked being around Ivan. He didn't seem anything like my old boss, and he didn't have a creepy/gross vibe whenever we were intimate. My body called to him in ways that it never did with anyone else and I didn't want to lose that just yet because of something that happened in the past.
